voting, polls, vote, ballotVoters turned out in droves to cast a ballot Tuesday for the 2016 presidential primary.

On the Republican side in Ohio, Gov. John Kasich defeated Donald Trump, receiving more than 900,000 votes (46.8%). But Trump ended up winning primaries in Florida, Illinois, North Carolina and Missouri.

On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton was the easy winner in the Buckeye State.

In Medina County races, a surprise in one of the two races for the Republican nomination for County Commissioner. William Hutson edged by incumbent Commissioner Tim Smith to win the Republican nomination. Hutson will face Democrat Mark Kolesar in November.

In the other race for County Commissioner, incumbent Patricia Geissman easily defeated challenger Paul Gierosky for the Republican nomination.

In the only other contested race for a Medina County Government office, incumbent Clerk of Courts Dave Wadsworth defeated his challenger. Wadsworth will be challenged by Democrat J.R. Russell in November.

In State offices from Medina County, in the 69th House District, incumbent Republican Steve Hambley defeated challenger Chris Sawicky. Hambley will face Democrat Frank Zona in November.  In the 22nd Ohio Senate race, incumbent Republican Senator Larry Obhof defeated challenger Janet Folger Porter by a 2-to-1 margin.  He will face Democrat Christopher King in November.

In Montville Township, a one-mill, five year additional tax levy to pay for roads and bridges was defeated.

In related news, Wadsworth City Council will meet tonight (March 16) beginning at 7:30 at city hall.  The meeting was moved back one day because of Tuesday’s election.
