Wadsworth Community Radio

basketballsWhen we first met senior Aubrey Virgin two weeks ago here at Wadsworth Community Radio, we asked her if there was a basketball team she wanted to play before she graduated. The answer was quick. Aubrey said, “Toledo Notre Dame Academy.”

For the last three years, Toledo Notre Dame Academy and Wadsworth have met in the Norwalk Regional Final. And for the last three years, the Eagles have defeated the Lady Grizzlies, denying them a trip to Columbus.

Wadsworth is hoping the fourth time is their charm.

During an interview on WCR’s Morning Show on Thursday, Virgin said “We know it’s going to good game. We’re going to go into it thinking we can win. I know we will play our hardest”.

Wadsworth head coach Andrew Booth described the Toledo Notre Dame team as a squad that ‘likes to pound it inside with a 6-3 center. They also have a good shooter and a point guard and they fill in around those players”. He said the Eagles play a style that is different than the one they faced in Tuesday’s regional semi-final overtime victory against North Royalton.

For the Lady Grizzlies, their task on Saturday is simple. “We need to play defense. We need to play with discipline. We have to play like we do in practice evey day”, said Virgin. And the senior post player said they want to get a win on Saturday not only for themselves, but ‘also for the girls who played before us”.

Saturday’s game is at 1 pm at Norwalk High School.
