baseballThe baseball season came to an end Wednesday for the Wadsworth Boys Varsity team.

In eight innings, the Highland Hornets defeated Wadsworth 4-2 in a game played at Barberton High School. The Grizzlies were seeded number one in the Barberton District, but are going home early.

The Grizzlies had a 2-0 lead in the seventh inning with one out. But, Highland rallied to put two runs on the scoreboard to tie the game.

Wadsworth had a good chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh. Chris Byers doubled to the fence in left to start the uprising. Eventually the Grizzlies had runners on second and third with one out. But, an infield pop out and a fly to center ended the threat.

Highland scored another two runs in the top of the eighth and the Grizzlies could not answer.

Wadsworth head coach Greg Pickard admitted it was a tough way to lose. “We had a lot of chances to score runs in the game. But couldn’t. It’s been an epidemic for us the last couple of weeks”.

Pickard said the problem hasn’t been getting scoring chances; making them count was a problem. “It was something that has been happening a lot lately. We’ve been trying different approaches but it just hasn’t worked. We’ve had good teams the last several years, but we haven’t stepped up in Tournament time”.

In the District final, it will be Hoban against Highland.
