Red WThe “W” is back in town.

Wadsworth Municipal Workers traditionally paint a red “W” on the square in Downtown Wadsworth when a Wadsworth High School athletic team wins a state championship. That Red “W” is where High/Main and College/Broad come together.

Early Tuesday morning workers laid out the template for the red “W” and the white “#1”. During morning rush hour workers, with paint brushes and rollers in hand, completed the job.

The Wadsworth Lady Grizzlies basketball team won the Division One State Basketball Championship when they defeated Mason 60-51 back on March 12th in Columbus.

Wadsworth city officials were waiting for the temperatures to warm up before the street painting took place. The last time the Square in Downtown Wadsworth adorned the red “W” was in 2010 when the wrestling team won the Division One State Championship.

It was another honor for the Girls Basketball team. Besides having the “W” painted on the square, the Lady Grizzlies have had a number of honors bestowed on them; including having the website MaxPreps honor them at an assembly at Wadsworth High School.

Be sure you grab a picture on the Red “W”. You don’t know when the next State Championship will be won by a Wadsworth High School Athletic team.
