IMG_0174It was a rare treat for the Girls Division One State Champions the Wadsworth Lady Grizzlies basketball team and their coaching staff.

The team and coaches spent Wednesday afternoon at the Statehouse in Columbus. They were honored by both the House of Representatives and the State Senate for their state championship win over Mason last month.
State Senator Larry Obhof and State Representative Steve Hambley, both of whom represent the city of Wadsworth in Columbus, sponsored resolutions, congratulating the Lady Grizzlies on their accomplishment.

“I think it was a tremendous accomplishment for both the team and the coaching staff” said Senator Obhof. “The amount of work it takes to win a state championship is hard to overstate. It shows a lot of character and a lot of effort throughout the year”.

Senator Obhof says he was most impressed that the Lady Grizzlies were able to avenge their only loss of the season by beating Mason 60-51 in the State Championship game.

“We’ve got a pretty good basketball program in Wadsworth and I’m looking forward to seeing them play next season” Senator Obhof added.

The team was first honored by the Ohio Senate. Then, the players and coaches walked across the Statehouse Rotunda and were honored by the House of Representatives.
