Wadsworth Grizzly pawThe Wadsworth Girls’ track team is halfway through their season. Head Coach Chris Beery feels that the team has enjoyed a good amount of success during the 2015 campaign.

For starters, the Wadsworth Girls track team finished first at their first meet of the season, the F.E. Cope Invitational at Salem High School. The Lady Grizzlies have also competed at Lexington High School and at the Rebel Relays at Willoughby South High School. In Suburban League meets, Wadsworth is 3-1.

This past week was a particularly tough one for the Lady Grizzlies. Two meets in three days, especially in the cold weather was tough for the student-athletes. Those meets were against two of the better track teams in the Suburban League, Green and Nordonia. Wadsworth defeated Green on Tuesday by winning the 17th and last event of the meet, the 4 X 400 relay.

It was a different story on Thursday. Coach Beery said ” I think the cold weather and having two meets in three days caught up with us”. Nordonia handed Wadsworth its first loss of the season.

“We’ll have a chance to face Nordonia again in the Suburban League Championships” said Beery.

Among the leaders of this year’s Wadsworth Girls Track team are seniors Madi Salem, Abby McNutt and Callie Almes. Madi participates in the 400 & 800-meter races, plus the relays. Abby throws the shotput and the discus. Callie competes in the high jump and the long jump.

It will be another busy week for the Wadsworth Girls Track team. This coming Tuesday, the Lady Grizzlies host Copley in a League meet. On Thursday, Wadsworth travels to Highland for a Suburban League meet. To wrap up the week, the team travels to Austintown Fitch for an invitational meet.
