Make sure to take some time this weekend to honor and celebrate your mom this Mother’s Day weekend. Here’s a list of fun family things to do that aren’t necessarily Mother’s Day related. Although some are, of course!
Many of the nation’s public gardens will mark Mother’s Day with special events and activities for schools, families and thousands of visitors to explore and discover their local public garden, while learning about each garden’s commitment to education, research and environmental stewardship. Moms get free admission to the Holden Arboretum in Kirtland from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Friday. More: http://www.nationalpublicgardensday.org/.
Don’t miss the free Garden Fest at Beech Creek Botanical Garden & Nature Preserve, Touch-a-Truck at Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library and the Build and Grow Kids Clinic at Lowe’s, where kids can build a Mother’s Day planter. Plus, there’s the Celtic Beltane Festival in Norton and The Hooley in Cleveland on Saturday.
Several communities are hosting fishing derbies this weekend, too. Wadsworth’s fishing derby will be Saturday at Memorial Park from 9 a.m. – noon. It’s $2 per child and don’t forget to bring your own bait and fishing pole. Other youth fishing derbies can be found here: http://bit.ly/1Jb1o7v.
The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is also Saturday. Just gather a bag of non-perishable food items and place them next to your mailbox (before the mail comes) and your mail carrier will collect the donations and deliver them to your local food bank to help those in need.
