baseballThe Wadsworth High School baseball team has plenty of goals they want to achieve as they begin the 2015 season.

Wadsworth head baseball coach Greg Pickard, entering his fourth season in leading the Grizzlies, said he hopes to build on the success the team has had over the last two seasons. In 2013 and 2014, the Wadsworth baseball team racked up 22 wins in each campaign.

Another goal is to repeat as Suburban League Champions. But Pickard said that won’t be easy. “There are plenty of teams that will battle for the top spot in the SL. Besides Wadsworth, Nordonia, Copley, Highland and Tallmadge will be in the mix for the top spot in the Suburban League.

Last year was the first time in 10 years that Wadsworth captured the Suburban League title.

The Grizzlies will be a senior-laden team in 2015. “We won the Suburban League last year with mainly juniors. We lost only 5 seniors from last year’s team,” says Pickard. Wadsworth will have 11 seniors on this year’s varsity roster.

One of the seniors that will lead the Grizzlies this year is right-handed pitcher Nick Bebout. Last year, Nick made the first-team Suburban League, first-team all-district and Medina County Player of the Year.

“Another goal of this year’s team is to make a deeper state tournament run,” said Pickard.

The Grizzlies play Saturday at home against Glen Oak at 11 a.m. They hit the field again Monday afternoon at 4:30 against Jackson.
