baseballAn unusual save was recorded by the Wadsworth varsity baseball team on Tuesday. It won’t show up in the record books as an official “save” but Wadsworth manager Greg Pickard and pitcher Chris Byers will take it.

The Grizzlies were leading Cloverleaf 2-0 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning with a runner on first. Byers had an important job, although many people don’t think so. Byers was keeping the scorebook in the dugout while Nick Bebout was on the hill.

With Cloverleaf batter Kenny Wells representing the tying run at home plate, Byers noticed something unusual. The Cloverleaf hitter was batting out of order.

Byers then told Wadsworth head coach Greg Pickard. After the first pitch was thrown by Bebout to Wells, Pickard headed to the home plate to tell the umpire what happened. The umpire checked the scorebook, called the batter out and Wadsworth got the win.

The Grizzlies are 6-0 on the season, 5-0 in the Suburban League. Cloverleaf and Wadsworth play once again this afternoon this time at Wadsworth High School. First pitch is at 4:30.
