Wadsworth Community Radio

wadsworth batting helmetThis week is the halfway point of the High School baseball season. The Wadsworth Grizzlies have enjoyed a great deal of success in the first half, thanks to the senior leadership on the team.

Wadsworth is 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the Suburban League.

The second half of the season will be a busy one for the Grizzlies, as they try to squeeze in plenty of rained out games. “We’ll be going pretty hard in the next two or three weeks” said Wadsworth baseball coach Greg Pickard. “We have make-up games scheduled both this week and next week.”
“We have some very tough Suburban League games coming up. The State Tournament draw is May 3rd. We need to be playing at our best before the draw takes place so we get seeded well” said Pickard.

One of the strengths of this year’s Wadsworth Grizzlies baseball team is the 12 seniors that are on the team.

“We played a lot as juniors” said senior first basemen Kyle Pennington. “That one year of varsity experience has helped us this year, especially on offense”.

Senior pitchers Nick Bebout and Chris Byers have used their experience on the mound to their advantage.

With 5 of the 12 Wadsworth baseball seniors already receiving scholarships to play college baseball next season, you can understand the success the Grizzlies have achieved this season.

Today begins a stretch of five games in five days for Wadsworth. Tuesday and Wednesday, the Grizzlies play Green High School in a Suburban League match-up. Tuesday’s game is at Wadsworth High School. Wednesday’s contest is at Green. Thursday’s game is at Aurora. Friday’s game is at home against Chippewa. Saturday night’s game is at 7 o’clock at Massillon Perry.
