Gabe ReedMusic flows from the veins of Gabe Reed, a 2014 Wadsworth High School graduate. The 19-year-old college student has a ton of talent and he shared some of it with the morning show. Recently, he and another WHS grad made their first music video. You can watch “One of a Kind” via YouTube here: http://bit.ly/1LBpLgr.

Reed sang two originals for us, a pair of songs that brought his mom to tears. “The Ohio Turnpike,” which you can hear part of on our Facebook page, is about leaving home and heading to Pittsburgh for school, then meeting a “wonderful” girl, Emily, during the first week of class.

His second acoustic performance was titled, “On My Own,” a fantastic mix of folk/pop that details his journey to independence.

Reed is a professional singer/songwriter who does gigs at local wineries and for private parties and events. While he’s pretty booked this summer, there are some openings and he’s always up for playing at new places.

The star even auditioned for “American Idol” last summer to see where it would take him — and he made it through several rounds.

“The experience is a little different than what you see on TV,” Reed explained. “Not everyone gets to see all three judges. They thin the crowd, auditioning you in big groups of people. It’s not all about just your talent. I played an original. They wanted to hear a cover to see how well you can sing a song.”

Nonetheless, Reed learned a lot from the experience and explained how music has changed and shaped his life.

“One of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite artists, Jason Mraz, says music is the weapon in the war against unhappiness. In life, there are a lot of times where, even something little, can get you really down, but sometimes there’s that song that makes you realize everything’s gonna be OK.”
