One of the things that makes the community of Wadsworth so unique is that people talk to each other. And the best part about my job is I get to meet and interview interesting people on a daily basis.
Councilman Bob Thurber, owner of Thurber’s Jewelers in downtown, noticed a family outside of his store Monday and walked outside to jokingly ask if they were taking a photo of his dead flowers.
“I said no, we are not. We are taking a photograph of the clock that says Wadsworth because we’re the Wadsworths,” Teresa Wadsworth explained. “The gentleman (Bob Thurber) then came out with this beautiful book (Bicentennial scrapbook) and said this is for you!”
Teresa and her husband Alan are originally from England. They, along with their three daughters – Michelle, Lisa and Kim – now live in Toronto, Canada and are visiting town because of Google.
“We were on vacation and decided to Google Wadsworth and we came across Wadsworth, Ohio. It led us to find the Blue Tip Festival,” explained Alan. “So we decided we had to come for the parade and see the city.”
“Oh, you should’ve heard the excitement when they first saw the sign for Wadsworth,” Teresa continued. “I’m sitting in the back seat and I can’t see past the headrest and all of a sudden, screams burst out. I almost had heart failure. I thought we killed a deer or something!”
The Wadsworths thoroughly enjoyed the parade on Monday night to kick off the Blue Tip Festival. They are packed full of “family named” items to bring back home, including charms from Three Roses Gift Boutique of the city of Wadsworth and a few Wadsworthopoly games.
“We are so impressed with town. It’s obvious the residents have such a pride. The lawns are perfect. I don’t think I’ve seen any graffiti – and we travel a lot. It’s clean and neat. People are fantastic,” Teresa said.
She and the family appreciated the tour of town, glass of wine and history lesson with Jill Parker.
“People here love where they live. Many have grown up here. It’s such a lovely town and I’ve had the feeling that I would like to live here,” Teresa continued.
I think this means the Blue Tip Festival has gone international, friends! It was terrific meeting the Wadsworths in Wadsworth on Wadsworth Community Radio!
