basketballsThe Wadsworth Lady Grizzlies have moved into the Elite 8 in the Division One Girls High School Basketball Tournament.

Wadsworth defeated Magnificat 73-49 to advance to the Regional Finals Saturday afternoon at Norwalk High School. The Lady Grizzlies will face Toledo Whitmer in the Regional finals for a trip to the Final Four at Ohio State University.

After the game was tied at 5 in the first quarter, the Lady Grizzlies put the ‘pedal to the metal’ for the remainder of the period. The result was a Wadsworth 24-7 lead after the first 8 minutes of play. The first quarter ended with Jodi Johnson hitting a three-pointer as time expired.

In the second quarter, the Lady Grizzlies outscored the Blue Streaks 12-6 to open up a 36-13 lead at halftime.

Magnificat came out in the third quarter and outscored the Lady Grizzlies by two points 23-21. But, the Lady Grizzlies still held a 21 point lead. Senior Elise Keshock had a big scoring third quarter for Magnificat tossing in 12 points.

In the fourth quarter it was Jodi Johnson and Sophia Fortner leading the way for Wadsworth. Johnson had 8 and Fortner had 6 of the Lady Grizzlies’ 16 points.

In the game, Jodi Johnson led the way with 25 points, Fortner had 18 and Lexi Lance had 13. For Magnificat, Keshock had 20, Phoebe Sterba added 12.

Toledo Whitmer defeated Westlake 41-38 in the other regional semi-final in the Norwalk bracket. Game time on Saturday afternoon will be 1 o’clock at Norwalk High School.
