Shannon Jones excited for state bowling tournament, looks to bring title home to Wadsworth – Wadsworth Community Radio

Wadsworth Community Radio

Shannon Jones, Wadsworth bowlerWadsworth senior Shannon Jones, 18, has natural talent and a natural cool confidence about her.

The senior captain will compete in the OHSAA state bowling tournament Friday at Wayne Webb’s Bowling Center in Columbus at 10:30 a.m.

Having only been bowling since a freshman in high school, Shannon exudes the high level of ccompetition and ability you’d expect to see in someone who grew up playing the sport.

“My friends bowled and said it was fun so I decided to pick up a ball, too, and it’s stuck with me,” Shannon said.

She holds the Medina County record for high game, shooting a 255. Shannon’s two game series is 423, which places her at 5th for Medina County. The righty holds a 176 average, 4th highest in the county for girls.

“She is a very disciplined bowler who practices very hard and is a great student of the game,” head coach George Steele said. “Shannon has a way to find the pocket on the hardest of conditions. She is also a very strong spare shooter, which is going to be key at the State finals. Those are a few of the reasons I think she will bring a state title home for Wadsworth.”

“I’m nervous but excited,” Shannon told us in the studio Thursday morning. “I’ll be hanging out with my friends, practicing at the lanes and staying focused.”

When asked if she thought she could win it all, Shannon replied “I think so. I need to average 203 games and if I have an open frame, it just means I need to make more strikes.”

Shannon has plans to continue playing beyond the high school level, having already committed to Notre Dame College in South Euclid.
