Shortly after 9 p.m. on Feb. 15, Wadsworth police responded to a one-car crash on I-76 east near State Route 57 during the snowstorm. The K-9 officer and his handler arrived to the scene first and parked in the left lane.

During that time, a minivan and another vehicle were trying to go around the crash in the right lane when the minivan hit the other vehicle, then hit the K-9 cruiser.

Zoro, the K-9 officer, was inside the patrol car when it was struck.

In a Facebook post late Monday night, police happily reported Zoro was not injured “and is back in good spirits” after being “a little shaken up.”

The weather prompted a Level 2 Snow Emergency in Wadsworth and officers asked drivers to avoid the roads until the snowstorm ended.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

No one else was injured in the crash.

The highway was closed until 11:15 p.m. so crews could clear the scene.
