Republican Donald Trump has been elected the 47th president of the United States. With a win in Wisconsin, Trump cleared the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency around 5:53 a.m.
Locally, it was a clean sweep by Republicans in Medina County in the Nov. 5 election. In the County Commission races, incumbents Steve Hambley and Aaron Harrison were victorious, as were Prosecutor Forrest Thompson, Treasurer John Burke, County Recorder Linda Hoffman, County Engineer Andy Conrad, Coroner Lisa Deranek, Clerk of Courts David Wadsworth and County Sheriff Terry Grice.
Republicans continued the sweep in statewide offices from Medina County. State Representative Sharon Ray won re-election in the 66th District and Melanie Miller won in the 67th District. State Senator Mark Romanchuk was a 2-to-1 winner in the 22nd District State Senate race.
In the races for Medina County Representatives to Capitol Hill, Republican Bernie Moreno unseated incumbent Democrat Senator Sherrod Brown. In the 7th Congressional District, incumbent Congressman Max Miller was re-elected.
The voter turnout in Medina County was huge. There are 134,000 registered voters in the county and 106,000 cast ballots. That’s a nearly 80% voter turnout in Medina County for the Nov. 5 General Election.
