Wadsworth’s beloved Halloween tradition, Scare on the Square, has been named one of only three finalists for Heritage Ohio’s Best Main Street Committee Event Award, a statewide honor that celebrates outstanding events promoting community and downtown revitalization.

Each October, the heart of downtown Wadsworth transforms into a thrilling, family-friendly spectacle. Visitors of all ages join zombies reenacting Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” dance while local businesses hand out candy and costumed kids walk along Main Street in costume. The event is one of Main Street Wadsworth’s most anticipated community celebrations.

Finalists are competing for top honors in the Best Main Street Committee Event category, a distinction awarded to community-led events that exemplify economic vitality, presentation, public involvement, and promotion. The award winners will be revealed on Oct. 15, at the Canton Palace Theatre during the Heritage Ohio Annual Conference.

Being recognized as a finalist underscores just how powerful and impactful community-driven events can be. Main Street Wadsworth’s programming continues to strengthen the heart of the city, inviting visitors, boosting local businesses, and celebrating downtown’s character. If Scare on the Square takes home the award, it will earn statewide recognition and further shine a spotlight on Wadsworth as a community that knows how to embrace heritage with vibrancy!
