The Medina County Health Department is warning residents that frostbite can develop in just minutes during extreme cold conditions expected across northeast Ohio.

Health officials urge people to limit time outdoors, protect exposed skin, and dress in warm, layered clothing, including hats, gloves, and socks. Wind and moisture can increase the risk, along with direct contact with ice, freezing metal, or very cold liquids.

Early signs of frostbite include numbness, tingling, pale or discolored skin, and pain, while more serious cases can lead to blistering and long-term damage.

Officials also recommend carrying emergency supplies when traveling and avoiding unnecessary trips outdoors during dangerously cold temperatures.

Residents are encouraged to take cold weather warnings seriously and check on vulnerable neighbors during this extreme cold snap.
