A local middle school student is seeing the world, and her future, in a whole new way thanks to the generosity of Ohio Blind Golf and its supporters.

The organization recently covered the $2,800 cost of specialized Ocutech bioptic glasses for Payton, a 14-year-old student whose vision impairment made everyday activities difficult. The glasses, not covered by insurance, have dramatically improved Payton’s vision: from 20/400 to 20/68 in her better eye. It means she went from being legally blind to having functional vision she can actually use every day.

Her mother says the change has been nothing short of life-altering. “They’ve given her a new sense of confidence and opened doors we never thought possible,” she said. “Watching her excitement grow as she attends her sisters’ basketball games has been incredible, especially the moment she realized she could see the hoop on the court.”

Payton is now discovering new independence, including something her family once thought impossible.

“For the first time, she can sit on the couch and watch TV with our family,” her mom shared. “These glasses have truly been a blessing as we navigate this new journey, and they’ve sparked a new passion for life and the small joys it brings daily.”

Ohio Blind Golf organizer Mark Arnold says supporting families like Payton’s is central to the group’s mission. “Helping families who can afford it, but at real financial strain, is exactly why we do this work. It gives parents room to care for their whole family. This is what community looks like.”

Payton’s mom closed her message with gratitude for everyone who made the gift possible. “Thank you to American Blind Golf and all of the supporters who made this possible. You helped make a 14-year-old big sister’s dream come true by seeing her sisters run down the court, and her confidence has grown in the most beautiful way.”
PaytonOhio Blind Golf continues to support individuals and families across the region by providing access to vision assistance and adaptive equipment that can change lives.
