New national data from the White House shows violent crime declined sharply in many of the country’s largest cities in 2025.

According to the report, murders were down 19% nationwide compared to the previous year, robberies fell 20%, and aggravated assaults dropped nearly 10%.

In Columbus, local law enforcement has also reported year-over-year decreases in several violent crime categories, reflecting a broader national trend. Officials say the reductions are being attributed to a combination of targeted enforcement, community-based strategies, and federal support initiatives.

The report also notes declines in shooting deaths, overdose deaths, and traffic fatalities nationwide.

Public safety leaders in Columbus say while the progress is encouraging, continued focus on prevention and community partnerships remains key to sustaining the trend.
