The International Soap Box Derby is reaffirming its focus on youth development with a refreshed mission and a new leadership initiative.
Leaders say the program’s mission remains centered on “Inspiring the Next Generation of Champions,” using gravity racing to teach STEM concepts, leadership skills, teamwork and character.
The Derby also introduced its core values, perseverance, sportsmanship, community, leadership and collaboration, which organizers say shape the experience for young racers both on and off the track.
As part of the effort, the organization is launching a Young Professional Leadership Council aimed at giving youth and young adults a voice in supporting the Derby’s programs and future direction.
Applications for the council will open March 6 at 10 a.m.
