Kent State University’s Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative has received a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to bring temporary winter art installations to the lower level of Cleveland’s Veterans Memorial Bridge.

The project, planned for early 2027, will transform the historic streetcar level of the bridge with public art and a daylong event aimed at activating the underused space.

Local middle and high school students will help create digital projections and interactive displays, highlighting the bridge’s industrial history and Cleveland’s cultural identity as part of the America250 initiative.

Leaders say the project will not only bring new energy to a well-known landmark but also help shape future plans to make the lower level more regularly accessible to the public.
