The Wadsworth City School District is inviting the community to take part in a new survey aimed at shaping the district’s future.

Superintendent Dr. Andy Hill says the effort is part of a broader push for a more collaborative planning process, as outlined in the district’s fiscal precaution plan submitted to the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce in December 2025. That plan, required under state law, comes as the district faces long-term financial challenges tied to outdated state funding formulas, rising operational costs, and shifts in how public schools are funded.

District leaders say they want to ensure the community has a voice before any decisions are made about potential changes to services and whether to pursue additional funding.

The survey asks residents to rate the value of programs and services that go beyond the State of Ohio’s minimum operating standards. These include access to student mental health resources, affordable extracurricular activities, updated technology, elective course offerings, gifted services, smaller class sizes, transportation, and character education.

Responses will help guide future decisions as the Board of Education considers funding options and evaluates how to maintain or adjust services. While a reduction plan is required by law, district leaders emphasize that no final decisions have been made and that community input is critical in determining next steps.

The district points to several contributing factors behind its projected deficit, including state funding based on 2022 cost levels, increasing expenses since that time, and legislation that has shifted more of the financial burden onto local taxpayers. Officials also note that traditional school levies do not grow with property values, further limiting revenue.

The survey is open through April 30. Responses are anonymous unless you choose to include their name and contact information for follow-up.
