A northeast Ohio native is being recognized on a national level for her leadership and service in military medicine.
Heidi Morrison, originally from Clinton, has been selected for an Excellence in Leadership award from the Defense Health Agency while supporting the Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Unit in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
It’s a full-circle moment for someone who has spent decades serving others.
Morrison graduated from Northwest High School back in 1988 and went on to serve 20 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a lieutenant commander. These days, she continues that work as a registered nurse, this time as a civilian employee supporting Navy Medicine.
The award highlights more than just her role, it recognizes her impact. According to officials, Morrison was honored for helping strengthen the future of military healthcare while also mentoring and developing the next generation of leaders.
And for Morrison, that’s what it’s really about.
She says the recognition reflects not only her own efforts, but also the dedication of the team she works alongside every day.
The unit she supports plays a key role in preparing service members for deployment while delivering high-quality care and advancing medical training and research.
