The Akron RubberDucks made history Sunday afternoon, tossing a combined no-hitter in a 4-0 win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies at 7 17 Credit Union Park.
Five Akron pitchers: Matt Wilkinson, Matt Jachec, Magnus Ellerts, Jay Driver and Jack Carey — teamed up to keep Binghamton hitless, marking the sixth no-hitter in franchise history and the first in Minor League Baseball this season.
Wilkinson set the tone early, delivering five perfect innings with six strikeouts. The bullpen carried it from there, working around a handful of walks to preserve the no-hit bid into the ninth.
With three outs to go, Carey took the mound and handled the pressure. After a flyout and two walks, he regrouped following a mound visit and recorded the final two outs, a popout and a flyout, to seal the historic performance.
Offensively, Akron got on the board in the first inning and never looked back. A two-run home run from Wuilfredo Antunez highlighted the scoring, while the pitching staff did the rest.
The no-hitter is the team’s first since 2015 and their first nine-inning no-no since 2012.
Akron improves with the win and heads back on the road Tuesday to begin a series in Bowie.
