Squirrel knocks out power to downtown Wadsworth and beyond – Wadsworth Community Radio

Wadsworth Community Radio

Wadsworth utility truckDowntown Wadsworth was in the dark after a transformer went out Friday morning. The cause? A squirrel.

The animal took out the transformer at the corner of College and Westview around 7:15 a.m.

The square was abuzz with businesses and residents wondering what happened while in the dark.

“I can’t remember downtown losing power like this, especially since there wasn’t an electrical storm,” said one resident walking near Valley Café.

Owners at Valley Café remained calm and had their doors open for those needing a place to sit until power was restored.

The police department said the utility department began having issues with the transformer around 1 a.m. and crews manually reset the street lights.

Lights came back on around 8:15 a.m. Friday.

Remember, when power is out and the street lights aren’t working, treat them as a four-way stop.
