Who needs dating apps when Ohio apparently has roller coaster lines?
A new survey from ACE.com found the most unexpectedly romantic place in Ohio is none other than the roller coaster queue at Cedar Point.
Yes, standing in line for an hour, sweating in the summer heat and pretending you’re not terrified of a 200-foot drop may actually be helping people fall in love.
The survey of more than 3,000 people looked at the everyday places where unexpected connections happen naturally, and Ohio delivered some pretty entertaining answers.
The Cedar Point queue topped the list because, according to researchers, it combines adrenaline, boredom, nervous jokes and shared excitement… which apparently creates perfect “meet cute” energy.
The survey joked that if sparks fly while waiting for a roller coaster, “that is either chemistry or survival instinct.”
Ohio’s top five “unexpectedly romantic” spots included:
Cedar Point roller coaster lines
Buckeye Donuts at 1 a.m.
Short North Arts District Gallery Hop
Jungle Jim’s International Market
West Side Market
Researchers say more people are finding romance in low-pressure, everyday settings as traditional date nights become more expensive. In fact, 96 percent of people surveyed said rising prices have made things like bars, restaurants and concerts less appealing.
The study also found simple behaviors matter more than flashy pickup lines. The biggest “green flag” was being polite to workers, followed by helping others, returning shopping carts and laughing at yourself.
The biggest turn-offs? Being rude to staff, cutting in line and loudly talking on speakerphone in public.
Researchers say the results show romance may happen when people least expect it, whether that’s while shopping for groceries, grabbing coffee… or waiting to ride a roller coaster in Sandusky.
