It was a good weekend for a number of Wadsworth High School Athletic teams.
SWIMMING
The Wadsworth Boys Swimming team will be represented in the State Swim meet to take place this coming weekend at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.
The Boys 200 yard Individual Medley Relay team won the district competition at Bowling Green this past Saturday. Junior Joe Pavlak won the 100 yard Breaststroke race. The relay team and Pavlak automatically qualify for the State meet.
The Wadsworth Swim team also had a number of individual swimmers and relay teams that finished third through sixth and may qualify for the state meet depending upon results from other districts in the state.
WRESTLING
The Wadsworth wrestling team won the sectional meet that was contested at the High School over this past weekend.
The Grizzlies had two sectional champions and will send 12 wrestlers to the district meet at Perrysburg High School.
The two champs were Noah Baughman at 120 and Joey Baughman at 160.
10 other Wadsworth wrestlers qualified for the district tournament. They are Matt McMillen at 113, Michael North at 126, Luke Baughman at 132, Brandon Baughman at 145, Cody Surratt at 152, Alex Jones at 170, Evan Goebel at 182, Chris Suarez at 195, Clay McComas at 220 and Kyle Green at 285. The Grizzlies lost another potential state qualifier when Brock Swartzbaugh missed weight at 106 by two-tenths of a pound.
BOYS BASKETBALL
The Wadsworth Boys Varsity Basketball team ended the regular season on a good note Friday night. The Grizzlies defeated Nordonia 64-49. Tony Hewitt led Wadsworth in scoring with 22 points. Christian Szalay added 19. The Grizzlies end the regular season with a record of 5-17 and a Suburban League record of 4-10. Wadsworth begins the state tournament this coming Wednesday night on the road against Stow-Munroe Falls.
