Thousands of runners, volunteers and spectators will be in Akron later this month for the 24th annual FirstEnergy Akron Marathon, Half Marathon & Team Relay, and drivers are being encouraged to plan ahead for road closures.
Closures will begin Friday, Sept. 25, and continue through race hours on Saturday, Sept. 26. Roads will reopen on a rolling basis as runners clear each section of the course.
Friday’s events include the Health & Fitness Expo at the John S. Knight Center from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., followed by the Mandel Family Kids Fun Run at 6 p.m.
The main marathon, half marathon and team relay begin at 7 a.m. Saturday, starting near the Akron Art Museum and finishing at Lock 3.
Drivers can find the complete road closure schedule at akronmarathon.org/road-closures, with updates also available through the Waze app.
