UPDATE 4:45PM: Wadsworth High School has been cleared to re-enter following a bomb threat earlier Monday afternoon.

Superintendent Dr. Andy Hill said the Wadsworth Police Department deemed the building safe after a thorough search by K9 units from multiple surrounding law enforcement agencies.

The school was evacuated around 2:30PM out of an abundance of caution. Students and staff were split between the middle school and intermediate school.

Police are continuing to investigate who was responsible for the threat. Due to the active investigation, officials say no additional details are being released at this time.

All after school activities were canceled Monday.

For students who left personal items behind, the high school will be open from 5-6:00 p.m. Monday evening. Students are asked to enter through Door #1, the main entrance.

School will resume as normal Tuesday, March 3.

District officials thanked Wadsworth Police Chief Dave Dorland, school resource officers, and members of the Wadsworth Police Department for their response.

PREVIOUS COVERAGE:

While officials say there are reasons to believe the threat is not credible, the district evacuated the building out of an abundance of caution.

About 100 students and approximately 20 teachers were still waiting as of 3:45PM inside the middle school following the evacuation as they weren’t allowed back into the high school to get their keys or belongings. The high school population was split, with roughly half relocated to the intermediate school and half to the middle school.

Law enforcement, including K9 units, are actively sweeping the building.

All after school activities have been canceled for Monday.

District officials say they are working closely with the Wadsworth Police Department and will provide additional updates as information becomes available.
