Cleveland Clinic Children’s is expanding access to mental health care for young people with a new program set to open this fall.

The hospital system is launching a pediatric partial hospitalization program at its Children’s Hospital for Rehabilitation, offering structured, intensive care for children and teens who need more support than traditional therapy, but don’t require an inpatient stay.

The program will be housed in a newly renovated space and will include innovative tools like virtual reality therapy and AI-assisted support to help patients build coping skills and improve emotional regulation.

Doctors say the program is designed to address growing demand and better connect different levels of care.

Since the pandemic, rates of depression, anxiety, and suicide attempts among youth have risen sharply, and Cleveland Clinic reports a significant increase in young patients seeking mental health care.

In addition to the new program, Cleveland Clinic Children’s is planning expanded services, including a mobile intervention team and additional behavioral health resources.

The new program is expected to open later this year.
