What began as a missed connection at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport has turned into a story that feels like it came straight from a romantic comedy.
On July 8, Grace Rombach was flying from Cleveland to Orlando when she noticed an aircraft maintenance worker she hoped to meet. They never had the chance to talk before her flight departed, so after landing, she took a chance and posted a message on Reddit asking for help finding him.
The post quickly gained attention online and eventually caught the eye of Cleveland Hopkins. Airport officials helped identify the mystery employee and arranged for the two to meet.
When Grace returned to Cleveland on July 10, the maintenance worker greeted her at baggage claim with flowers and a welcome sign. The pair began talking and planned their first official date after the surprise reunion.
The timing was especially fitting: Cleveland Hopkins had recently been ranked among the top 10 airport dating hot spots in the country in a traveler survey. The airport playfully shared the love-story update online, joking that people had not believed the ranking.
Whether this airport encounter becomes a lasting romance remains to be seen, but it has already become a favorite northeast Ohio feel-good story, and a little evidence that Cleveland Hopkins may have earned its matchmaking reputation.
