Details surrounding I-76 semi incident, highway closure September 9 – Wadsworth Community Radio

Wadsworth Community Radio

At approximately 7:45 p.m. Wednesday night, Wadsworth police officers responded to I-76 westbound, just east of Route 94, for a reported altercation between a semi-truck driver and another motorist.

The truck driver told authorities he was injured in an attack by an unknown suspect armed with a knife. Since the incident happened outside of the Wadsworth City corporation limits, the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to handle the investigation.

What we know is the injured driver was taken by Wadsworth EMS to an Akron hospital. But further developments in the case overnight revealed this incident didn’t happen as initially reported. “There are no suspects at large or being sought,” said Wadsworth Police Lt. Dave Dorland in an email.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is handling the investigation and will issue a release later Thursday morning. We will update this story with those details as soon as they become available.

The westbound lanes of the interstate were temporarily closed to protect the crime scene and allow for EMS to help the injured driver. One lane was opened by OSP at approximately 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Update at 11:45 a.m. from OSP:
