A crash involving a dump truck Monday afternoon caused an overhead highway sign to collapse across part of Interstate 77 in Copley Township, shutting down southbound traffic for several hours.

According to Copley Police, the semi-truck was traveling northbound on I-77 when the driver went off the roadway. The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the truck crossed three lanes of traffic, struck a median wall, and caused an overhead sign truss to fall across the southbound lanes near the Route 18 overpass.

As a result, I-77 southbound was closed while crews worked to clear debris and assess damage to the roadway and sign structure.

Police say the driver of the truck was injured in the crash. The extent of the injuries has not been released, and the investigation is ongoing.

Drivers were diverted around the closure and advised to avoid the area while cleanup and repairs were made.
