Marian’s Closet is gearing up for its biggest and only annual fundraiser—a community golf outing set for Friday, August 1 at Chippewa Golf Course. Registration begins at 8 a.m., followed by a 9 a.m. shotgun start in a fun scramble format. Teams can receive a $25 discount by registering in person at Marian’s Closet with cash or check. The outing not only raises essential operational funds but also brings together local sponsors, donors, and supporters who contribute baskets and items for a much-loved raffle. As Marian’s Closet Executive Director Teresa Berrey explained, this single fundraiser plays a crucial role in keeping the organization running—especially as community needs grow during times of economic strain.
Founded from humble beginnings—literally in a closet—Marian’s Closet has blossomed into a vital local nonprofit offering clothing, household goods, toiletries, diapers, and more to individuals and families in need. For a small $20 annual fee, clients can access generous amounts of these essentials, and no one is turned away due to where they live. Berrey emphasized the importance of both financial and in-kind donations, especially items like diapers, toilet paper, and men’s and children’s clothing. Stories of community generosity abound, like a last-minute donation of toilet paper just when the shelves were empty—moments she describes as glimpses of God’s providence.
With limited space and high demand, Marian’s Closet carefully encourages seasonal giving and always appreciates donors who work around their unique hours and small parking lot. While the location remains small, the impact is anything but that. Serving more than 3,000 individuals last year alone, Berrey says what sets Marian’s Closet apart is the dignity and hope it offers, along with the deep gratitude they feel toward every donor, volunteer, and community partner.
To learn more, you can sign up for their newsletter, follow them on Facebook, or stop by during open hours—Wednesdays through Saturdays. As Berrey warmly put it, “Marian’s Closet is a treasure, and this community makes it possible.”
