habitatGround was broken on Wednesday for the construction of two new homes being built in the city of Wadsworth

City officials and members of Habitat for Humanity gathered at the site of one of the new homes, 660 Broad Street, for the ceremony. The other home is being built at 575 Broad.

“Wadsworth is a very important community to us” said David LeHotan, head of the Medina County branch of Habitat for Humanity. “Our goal is to provide affordable housing for young families who are looking for their first opportunity to purchase a home”.

Since its founding in April 1991, Medina County Habitat for Humanity has worked diligently to provide adequate and affordable housing for Medina County residents in need.

“Wadsworth is a great community with great schools and great facilities for us to do that” said LeHotan. Habitat hopes to have both homes in Wadsworth completed by the end of 2016.

Building two new homes so close to each other was Habitat’s plan. “It really helps us because we can co-ordinate the volunteers at two sites. And two houses can go up at the same time. It can have a bigger impact on the community with two houses going up” said LeHotan.

Habitat needs volunteers to help finish the homes. Work is usually done on Saturdays between 9 am and 4 pm. Skilled labor is welcome. But, if you have no home building skills, but a desire to help, you’re invited to come to the job site.

“We’ve built 30 homes in Medina County in our 25 years of existence. And recently we’ve had our first family pay off their mortgage with us” said LeHotan. “That’s quite a story”.
