Kids Day of Safety & Play is June 5 in Medina – Wadsworth Community Radio

Wadsworth Community Radio

The Medina Historic district will be buzzing with activity on June 5th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the Kids Day of Safety & Play. It will be a full day of free, family fun to start the summer season.

There will be games, activities, summer reading, and a huge safety fair. The majority of the activities will take place on and around the Medina Square.

“Kids Day of Safety & Play is one of our favorite events in the District,” shared Matt Wiederhold, executive director of Main Street Medina. “So many local organizations come together to provide free entertainment and educational experiences for the children of the community. We love the partnership with the Library to start their summer reading program, the fun book sale held by Project:LEARN, and all the games our sponsors provide. The safety fair is also a really fun but educational component where kids and families can learn about the fire and police departments, learn how to work a fire extinguisher, and get more familiar with the people who save lives every day.”

Coordinated and provided by Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital, the Safety Fair and Big Trucks on Broadway Display will be on Broadway Street between E. Liberty and E. Washington Streets. Participating groups include: GASP (Guardians Advocating Child Safety and Protection), Medina City Fire Department, Medina Police Department, Medina County Sherriff, Medina Community Recreation Center, Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital, Medina County Health Department, Serpentini Chevrolet Humvee, Armstrong, First Energy, and Century Cycles. Additional participants may be added prior to the event.

Tons of fun activities will be provided by participating local businesses, along with music and performances (tentative, due to COVID-19 restrictions), including dance music with DJ Allen Redmon, 9am-2pm; Medina Community Recreation Center Youth Zumba and Yoga, 9:30, 10, 10:30, 11:30a;, Kim’s College of Martial Arts demonstrations, 10:30am and 1:30pm; Orange Theory Fitness physical fitness games throughout the day; Josh the Juggler, performances, 11am and noon; Greg Zoltan State Farm Insurance with free coloring books; Rinky Dink Family Fun Center activities; Armstrong fun giveaways; PlastiPak free bottles of water and trinkets; Sweets & Geeks soda bottle ring toss game; Sir Troy’s Toys LEGO display; Face Painting/Balloon Animals, offered by Time to Party/Noah Scholl throughout the day; Paint a Picture Canvas Painting class, offered by All Fired Up ($15 per canvas), and a book sale offered by Project:LEARN.

In addition, free flying discs or biodegradable water bottles will be given to the first 1,000 children.

The Medina Square Farmers Market will also be on the Square from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering the best in locally grown and produced vegetables, fruits, baked goods, prepared foods, and more.
