The Wadsworth Lady Grizzlies started off the Girls State Basketball Tournament in fine fashion as they defeated the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Lady Bees 76-24 in a sectional game played Thursday night at the Wadsworth High School Gymnasium and broadcast live on Wadsworth Community Radio.
The Lady Grizzlies were ready to roll right from the opening tip.
At the end of the first quarter, Wadsworth had a 32-8 lead over the Lady Bees. Jodi Johnson had a 10 point quarter and Sophia Fortner had two, three-point baskets. And the rout was on.
At halftime, Wadsworth had a 49-10 led. After three periods, the Lady Grizzlies shoved the lead out to 41 points at 65-14.
Wadsworth Coach Andrew Booth cleared his bench in the fourth quarter. But, the substitutes and the junior varsity players outscored Brecksville 11-10.
Jodi Johnson led four Lady Grizzly players in double figures with 22 points. Peyton Banks had 11, Lexi Lance had 10 and Fortner had 10.
Leading the way for Brecksville was senior Erin Livingston who had 10 points.
Wadsworth’s record on the season is now 22 wins and one loss.
The Lady Grizzlies next game will be on Monday February 22nd when they play Brunswick at Medina High School in the district semi-finals. Tipoff is at 6 o’clock.
