A new list reveals which states are the most and least dependent on the federal government.
New Jersey, Delaware, Illinois, Minnesota and Kansas were the top five least dependent states. Montana, Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi and New Mexico ranked as being the most dependent on the federal funds.
Ohio was the 10th least dependent state on WalletHub’s list.
Overall, the WalletHub study found so-called blue states, which tend to vote Democratic, are less dependent than red states, which traditionally favor Republicans.
