Nearly $5 million is heading to law enforcement agencies across Ohio to crack down on drug trafficking and support addiction recovery.
Governor Mike DeWine announced the funding through two state programs focused on prevention, enforcement, and treatment.
Here in our area, Summit County will receive $60,000, Portage County $55,000, and Stark County $20,000. Several agencies in the Cleveland area are also receiving funding, with Ashtabula County getting the largest award locally at more than $140,000.
The money will be used to investigate and dismantle drug trafficking operations, disrupt the flow of illegal drugs, and support education, prevention, and recovery efforts for those impacted by addiction.
State leaders say the investment builds on progress already being made, with overdose deaths in Ohio declining for three consecutive years.
