At its May 20, 2019 meeting, the Medina County Board of Developmental Disabilities (MCBDD) announced the name of this year’s recipient of the MCBDD Donor Scholarship.

The scholarship, which is awarded by the Medina County Board of Developmental Disabilities Donated Funds Committee, was founded to support young persons who are pursuing a career which serves individuals with developmental disabilities. This year’s recipient has already shown a dedication to touching the lives of individuals with disabilities, and the MCBDD is proud to recognize the contributions of her outstanding service.

The 2019 MCBDD Donor Scholarship recipient is: Kenlynn Sundby ($1,500 Donor Scholarship)

Kenlynn is a senior at Medina High School and has already spent time learning and giving to the field of developmental disabilities. Her passion for wanting to help children with disabilities comes from her own experiences growing up, both within her family and through volunteer activities. Kenlynn has been heavily involved in Special Olympics for many years, assisting with Track and Field, Basketball, and Swimming. She has also volunteered with SHC and recently shadowed an Occupational Therapist at a local elementary school.

Besides her involvement with Special Olympics, Kenlynn has volunteered with Feeding Medina County through National Honor Society and the Spring Leadership Ball. She was a member of the soccer team and several chorus groups at Medina High School. Kenlynn also participates in the American Sign Language Club and helped organize the American Sign Language Ensemble.

In the fall, Kenlynn plans to attend Kent State University where she hopes to complete a degree in Exercise Science with a minor in American Sign Language. She would like to one day become an Occupational Therapist working with children in hospitals or elementary schools, helping them improve their fine motor skills.

The Donated Funds Committee and the entire MCBDD administration and staff would like to congratulate this outstanding student and wish her the best in her future endeavors.
