Medina County leaders are taking a closer look at the community’s long-term growth, approving a $7,000 contract to study how population and demographics may shift over the next 25 years. The move comes after an Ohio Department of Development survey projected a population decline for Medina County over the next quarter-century.

County Commissioner Steve Hambley pushed back on that outlook, pointing to strong development already underway. He noted that the Medina County Planning Department currently has housing permits for roughly 1,400 homes “on the drawing boards,” a signal he believes contradicts predictions of shrinking population.

The new study will help county officials assess future needs, guide planning decisions, and determine whether state projections align with local trends.
