Norton High School was closed Wednesday after district officials discovered a problem with the system responsible for removing sewage from the high school property.

In a message sent to families Wednesday morning, Superintendent Bryan Farson said the district’s maintenance team worked through the early morning hours attempting to restart two pumps that move sewage off-site, but those efforts were unsuccessful.

The district has since contacted both an electrician and a sewage company to help resolve the issue.

School officials say they are hopeful repairs will be completed Wednesday so classes can resume Thursday. An update on Thursday’s school schedule is expected later this afternoon.

District leaders also said information regarding Wednesday night’s Honors Banquet will be shared later in the day by High School Principal Mr. Shanor.

The district emphasized the sewer issue only impacts Norton High School and does not affect any other buildings in the district.

Most students dropped off Wednesday morning had already been picked up by parents, while remaining students were transported home by bus. Superintendent Farson also apologized to families for the late notice and inconvenience caused by the closure.
