Ohio drivers with E-ZPass can now take their transponders even farther across the country.
The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission announced that Ohio-issued E-ZPass transponders can now be used on participating toll roads in Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma and parts of Texas.
The expansion means Ohio E-ZPass customers can now use the same transponder and account on toll facilities in 24 states.
Ohio Turnpike officials say the agreement is another step toward creating a more seamless national tolling system.
The Commission approved the expansion earlier this month after several months of testing between E-ZPass agencies and tolling systems in the central United States.
Officials say increasing the number of compatible toll systems should also allow more transactions to be processed electronically, improve efficiency and reduce unpaid tolls.
Drivers do not need a separate transponder or account to use the newly added toll roads.
