“The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over ” campaign by the Wadsworth Police Department has started and runs through Labor Day, Monday Sept. 7.
Law enforcement in the city of Wadsworth will be especially diligent in looking for impaired drivers during the next two-plus weeks.
Wadsworth Police Chief Randall Reinke says there will be increased patrols in the city and the OVI Task Force is planning additional activities throughout Medina County during the next couple of weeks.
In 2013, there were 10,076 traffic fatalities in the United States involving a driver with a Blood Alcohol Content of a least .08 or higher. The National Traffic Highway Safety Administration reports that 31% of all traffic fatalities in 2013 involved an impaired driver.
The estimated economic cost of alcohol-impaired crashes in the United States in 2010 (the last year that economic data is available) was $49.8 billion.
And what may be the saddest statistic of all, of the traffic fatalities in 2013 involving children under the age of 14, about 17% occurred in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes.
