cold air funnel in eastern WdsworthMany northeast Ohioans witnessed a weather phenomena that is rarely seen in our area, though not uncommon. Funnel clouds were spotted close to the ground in eastern Wadsworth. It prompted the city’s tornado siren to go off. But the Weather Channel says they weren’t tornadoes, rather cold air funnel clouds.

Meteorologists say funnel clouds are associated with severe thunderstorms. Cold air funnels are caused by cold air above the moist air.

Cold air funnel clouds look dramatic, but they don’t typically touch the ground. If they do, they usually don’t cause any damage.

Listeners tweeted the photo seen here which was taken at the Wadsworth YMCA parking lot looking east to Silvercreek and Broad.
