Students across northeast Ohio have several new opportunities available, from college scholarships to volunteer service hours.
Here’s what’s now open:
Akron Press Club & John S. Knight Memorial Journalism Fund
The Akron Press Club and the John S. Knight Memorial Journalism Fund are awarding eleven $5,000 scholarships to college students studying journalism, public relations or communications.
Eligible applicants must:
- Be majoring in journalism, PR or a related communications field
- Have a permanent address or attend school in Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit or Wayne counties
- Maintain full-time student status through at least December 2026

Greg North Memorial Scholarship
The Greg North Memorial Scholarship is awarding thirteen $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors planning to pursue careers in the skilled trades.
Eligible students must be enrolled in:
- Four Cities Compact (Barberton, Copley, Norton, Wadsworth)
- Portage Lakes Career Center (Coventry, Green, Manchester, Springfield)
- Medina County Career Center (Transportation Technology Careers only)

Volunteer Opportunity: Forever Amber Acres
Students looking to earn service hours can also apply to volunteer at Forever Amber Acres in Medina. The organization offers middle and high school students the opportunity to help care for therapy horses that serve veterans and first responders.
Volunteers gain hands-on experience while supporting meaningful community work. Students can apply at foreveramber.org.
