Norton police issued a Nixle alert around 10 p.m. Tuesday that I-76 eastbound – just east of exit 11, which is Rt. 261) – was closed from a semi roll-over crash. The suggested detour was Rt. 94 to 261 to 21 south back to 224. The highway reopened around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

A witness told 330ToGo that a box truck cut off the semi truck and caused him to swerve. “The semi was hauling a 45,000 lb. coil on the back when he swerved. It caused him to fish tail and the straps holding that coil snapped and went flying off of the back, busted up the asphalt through the guardrail and down the hill it went.”

The driver of the semi is OK and was wearing his seatbelt. The witness said his truck recorded the entire thing and police “will track down the box truck that cut him off.”

The investigation continues. We will keep you updated on the closure.
