A Seville native is helping protect sailors and support one of the U.S. Navy’s most important aviation installations. Petty Officer First Class Ronald Seiler serves as a master-at-arms with the security detachment at Naval Air Station Lemoore in California. The base is home to more than half of the Navy’s F/A-18 Super Hornet aircraft and is the Navy’s only installation that houses the F-35C Lightning II fighter jet.

Seiler graduated from Cloverleaf High School in 2008 and joined the Navy 16 years ago.

He said his experience serving with a volunteer fire department back home helped prepare him for military service. “Back home I was involved in the volunteer fire department and enjoyed being part of a like-minded team with a common goal of protecting the public,” Seiler said. “Being in the Navy is very similar and gives me the same pride.”

Seiler said he chose the Navy because he wanted a different path than traditional college and was looking for a challenge that would help him grow and become independent.

Today, he is responsible for helping keep sailors and the base safe. Seiler said he is proud to pass his training and experience along to younger sailors and is eligible for selection to the rank of chief petty officer. “Serving in the Navy means being a part of something bigger than yourself and giving back to your country,” Seiler said.

He also thanked his wife, Amanda, and the sailors serving alongside him for their support throughout his Navy career.
