2015-08-11 14.46.27It was Media Day for the Wadsworth High School Football team on Tuesday. This year’s varsity squad lined up for pictures, individual shots and with teammates at Art Wright Stadium.

Fans will be able to see the final results of this year’s media day in this year’s football program and in various media outlets.

Wadsworth Head Coach Greg Dennison will lead the team once again. He has been on the sidelines for the Grizzlies for the past 20 years and has a record of 146-63. Last year, the Grizzlies were 7-4 and made the Division One playoffs before losing to Austintown-Fitch in the first round.

As is the case in High School football, there are changes every year. Coach Dennison says “We have good numbers this year. Nearly 60 players will be on the varsity”.

Offensively, Wadsworth will have a new quarterback. Senior Connor Montgomery will take over as the signal caller. Montgomery has good size for a quarterback at 6’3″, 186 pounds.

Daniel Weinerman will lead the Grizzlies in the backfield this season. Weinerman, a senior at 5’9″ 192 pounds, rushed the ball 279 times last season for 1,851 yards and scored 15 touchdowns. He added two mre TDs on pass receptions. Coach Dennision says “It’s nice to have an all-Ohio player coming back this year”.

Junior Alex Jones will join Weinerman in the backfield. Jones is a junior. He stands at 6’1 and weighs 196. The offensive line should be strong with Chris Byers, Bryan Perebzak and Kyle Green, all seniors, returning.

Defensively, the biggest concern is the linebackers. Coach Dennison says “we have athletes to play the position, they just need experience”.

Other changes for Wadsworth this year has the Grizzlies going from Division One to Division Two and joining the new Suburban League. Coach Dennison says “we won playoff games in Division One, but, the last time we were in Division Two we went to a Regional Final”.

As far as the new Suburban League, Coach Dennison says he “loves the competition”. the New Suburban League features Nordonia and Hudson, both playoff teams from last year.

Game number One is Friday August 28th at Art Wright Stadium against Ashland. Kickoff is at 7 pm.
